03/03/08

Monday, for some, is the worst day of the week. Geldof, for example. But tonight, thankfully, you're not him. Which means you don't have to dwell on your appalling back-catalogue and you can go out and have fun.

Szilvási Gipsy Folk Band (Concert)

Corvintető, 3rd March
Corvin Áruház, Blaha Lujza tér 1-2 [map]
Pest Centre, VIII, Blaha Lujza tér (M2, T4/6), 1 min

With their Oláh gipsy/latin/balkan combination, these guys are undeniably fun - just check out "My dog's leg hurts" for proof. The last album was called "Folklore beats you up" but don't fight it, feel it.

Se, jie / Lust, Caution (Film)

Provided that you don't have a short attention span - you might want to check out Ang Lee's latest. Japanese-occupied Shanghai yields an underworld of espionage, confused identity and erotically-charged power-play. Caution to viewers who are sensitive to scenes of explicit lust. (In Mandarin, with Hungarian subtitles).

Chris Rea (Concert)

Papp László Budapest Sportaréna , 3rd March, 19.30
Stefánia út 2 [map]
Pest, XIV, Stadionok (M2)
The Road to Hell leads to Budapest for one night only. What, you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for "one of the UK’s most respected singers and guitarists"? Come on, if you're over 25, you know more Chris Rea songs than Arctic Monkeys songs, I bet. (I know two. The other's "Auberge".) And... this is a concept tour based on his 'music book', "Blue Guitars"!!! If that isn't cutting edge, I don't know what is.

Two Dutch Photographers (Exhibition)

Ludwig Museum, until 6th April
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map]
Pest South, IX Millenniumi Kulturális Központ (T2) 3 min

The Dutch-Flemish Low festival has brought a wealth of imagination with it. Hans Van der Meer showcases lower-league football in all its banality and beauty, while Bertien van Manen gives the family photo a wider audience. Further details here.
