Speak the Hungarian Rapper (Concert)

Főbe-járat, 25th April, from 21.00, 500 ft
Károly körút, 5 [map]
Pest Centre, VI, Deák tér (M1/2/3), 3 min

Where do I start with this? I suppose it's not dissimilar to the filmklub (see below) in that it's an ultra-rare concert performance and it might be extreme(ly bad). Speak made quite a name for himself ony youtube last year, but as far as I can tell, he's only got two songs. Maybe he's just going to sing 'Stop the War' over and over and over and over again. Go! It'll be something to tell the grandchildren...

Singapore Sling (Film)

LUMU, 25th April, 18.00, 600 ft
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map] [filmklub program]
Pest, IX, Boraros tér (T 4,6), 8 min

This ultra-rare, extreme horror film from Greek director Nikolaidis is the latest offering in the Ludwig's filmklub (... which always starts with a 25 minute spoken intro in Hungarian, so get there late or take a gameboy). Tonight's film is certainly not for the faint hearted - the plot keywords on imdb include 'cannibalism,' 'extreme sex,' 'breaking the fourth wall', and 'non-statutory female on male rape.' Apparently though, the photography is ace. (Trailer here, imdb here).

Basement Freaks (Concert)

Vespa Music Club, 25th April, from 10pm, 500 ft
Andrassy ut. 47 [map]
Pest Centre, VI, Oktogon (M1,T4/6), 3 min

Funk and breaks in Vespa, which is a bar you might have missed. It's right on Oktogon, under a load of scaffolding... look for the vespas parked outside. BasementFreaks are currently on a mini-European tour, taking in Belgium, Vienna, Hungary and Serbia. Are they normal once outside a basement? Do they just play basements? Are they better at playing basements? I have no idea, but Vespa has a basement, which must be a good omen. (My space here).

Joseph Heer and Mimmo Roselli (Exhibition)

Kiscelli Múzeum, 17th April - May 25th
700 HUF
/adult; 1200 HUF/2 adults+2kids
Kiscelli utca 108
388-7817

Austrian, Joseph Heer hints at landscapes with his crayons and pigments, while Italian-born, Mimmo Roselli's subtle works investigate silence and the concept of the borderline. If you have a tendency to ask "What's that supposed to be?", maybe give this one a miss.

Bach Marathon (Concert)

MUPA, 25th April, 19:45, 1800 - 4600 ft
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map] [info]
Pest South, IX Millenniumi Kulturális Központ (T2) 3 min

If you don't like Bach, steer clear of MUPA tonight - you'd be baching up the wrong tree. Having said that, the Hungarian National Choir's bach is worse than its bite. Wait! Come Bach! I haven't finished. Two orchestral suites and a Magnificat make up the bach (- 'bulk') of the program, with Zoltán Kocsis conducting the HNPO. [Details here]
