29/03/08

It's Saturday night, the Discovery channel is showing something dreary about the Vikings but there's no need to sit around watching that schlock. So why don't you turn off the TV, go out, and do something less boring instead?

Peace! (Demonstration)
.
29th March, 18:00
Gellért Hill, Szent István tér, Lágymányos, Szent György tér

35 years since the last US troops withdrew from Vietnam
, March 29th seems a good day to stand up for peace, even if it seems impossible to achieve it. Be part of the human peace signs, but make sure you turn your lights out especially if you're going to stay out after eight. (The one on Hősök tere is tomorrow).

Move! (Concert)

Gödör, 29th March, from 19:00, free

After doing your bit for peace, Gödör steps in to help you celebrate with a free concert and Move! album launch. Another Day's dub-reggae blends with Boogie Mamma's Hungarian Ska among others. Then go home for a bit of peace.

Michael Clayton! (Film)

Puskin, 29th March, 13:00
Kossuth Lajos utca 18 [map]
Pest, V, Astoria (M2), 1 min

Life imitates art for Gorgeous George Clooney, whose character is involved with a corporation that irresponsibly markets a product they know to be harmful. Completely unlike Nestle, of course. (Reviews here).

All That Cinema (Exhibition)

Ludwig Museum, until 30th March
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map] Pest South, IX Millenniumi Kulturális Központ (T2) 3 min

Video art in Hungary is barely 20 years old but the Ludwig museum has already amassed quite a collection. You're running out of time to see the 'best of' collection from the video vaults - the exhibition closes tomorrow.

Fringe Festival (Festival)

Millenaris Park, 29th March, free
Kirókus u. 16- 20. [map]
Buda II, Széna tér (T4/6), 5 min

Fringe festivals are a great place to see things that would never-in-a-million-years be shown anywhere else. This has the downside of being less than consistent in terms of quality. The upside, however is that you get belly dancers, leather masks and bands called Voodoo Allen all in the same place. And all for free! Official site here.

MTK vs. Siófok (Football Match)

Hidegkuti Nándor Stadion, 29th March,15:00
Salgótarjáni út 12-14 [map]
Pest, VIII, (M2 to Stadionok then T1 South to Salgótarjáni út)

Who's that? It's
Urbán Gábor. He's happy because MTK are well on their way to winning the title. Lowly Siófok are about to be bulldozed. The Hungarian equivalent of Stoke vs. Norwich might not seem that appetizing but at least you're not watching Fradi!

The Last Drops (Concert)

Cafe Montmartre, 29th March, from 21:30
Zrínyi u 18. [map]
Pest, V,

Not been to a '
beer-fueled 4-man alt.country/indie folk/acoustic mashup' for a while? Well, tonight might be the night... The Last Drops will be doing exactly that at Cafe Montmartre, a stones throw away from the Basilica.
