"Here's another sunday morning call; Yer hear yer head-a-banging on the door; Slip your shoes on and then out you crawl; Into a day that couldn't give you more; think you've checked this link before?"

Stop moping around Noel, you big chrysanthemum! Try one of these...

National Gallop

(Day of Horses)

1st June, all day, free
Hősök tere [map]
Pest, XIV, Hősök tere, (M1) 1 min
Wow, an image like that is enough to give me goosebumps and gallop around the dining room table pretending to be Arpad himself. (And I'm not even Hungarian.) This is presumably what this is about. Where's your national pride, Magyars? Rise up and watch the horses tear around Hősök tere. Official site here.

Joking aside, it'll probably be quite something to see Hősök tere without the cars, or even the roads. And there's 30 million forints in it for the winner. This is the equivalent of going to see Robin Hood compete for the silver arrow.

Badacsonyi Borfesztivál

(Wine Festival)

Városháza Park, 1st June, 12.00 - 23.00
1000Ft including tasting glass and voucher
Városháza Park, Déak tér

The last day of the wine festival closes a bit early so that you won't be late for work tomorrow. But time enough to get sloshed on the finest that Badacsony has to offer. It's 1000Ft in, but that includes a glass and a miniscule amount of wine. Still, there's nothing to stop you taking your own.

Africa in Black and White

(Fashion Show and Concert)

Gödör, 1st June, from 20:00, free

Keuna provides the Ghanain cotton styles; Forward Ever provide the silky hip-hop style, which sounds a bit like that track that gets endless airplay here. The one that goes "Don't die, don't die... ", know the one I mean? It's by Barabas Lorinc Eklektric. Is it the same woman...? Yes. She's in Irie Maffia too. How many bands can one woman have?

Kertész Táncház (Folk Dance)

Főbe-járat, 1st June, free
Károly körút, 5 [map]
Pest Centre, VI, Deák tér (M1/2/3), 3 min

A Táncház? In Főbe-járat? No chance. But... could be interesting. The space will certainly preclude any large circular dances, but they do tend to make these things feel a bit too "community centre" anyway. Főbe-járat will probably make it feel a bit "shed", actually, given the decor. Rojtos zenekar, however will be trying to get you twirling.

Earth (Film)

Uránia, 1st June
15:00; 20:30 (or 18:00 at Művesz)

Whale, elephant and polar bear try to cope with the industrialised world. "I hope that cutting on my energy-use will do. I don't know how else to shorten the distance polar bears have to swim to reach land before they drown or attack animals they cannot beat in their exhausted state... " says ysbrant from Spain. Seeing Earth might provoke similarly profound thoughts in you too. Especially with narration from Patrick Stewart.
