The Duke of Edinburgh will be visiting Boss Pharmacy in Clapham today. I bet he wishes he was in Budapest.

Athe Sam (Festival)

Gödör, 3rd June, free, from 18.00

Be careful when you say this... Athe Sam is two words, not three, and it means 'We are here!' 'At the Sam', on the other hand, means there's a place called the Sam, and something is happening there. Complete nonsense, of course. Tonight, there's music from Kanizsa Csillagai and Mitsoura. Details here.

Eugene Onegin (Opera)

Hungarian State Opera, 19:00, 3rd June
Andrássy út 22 [map] [tickets]
Tel. 331 2550
Pest Centre, Opera (M1), 1 min

Tchaikovsky's adaptation of Puskin's novel comprises a selection of 'lyrical scenes' from Onegin's life. Ultimately, this became one of Tchaikovsky best-loved operas, but at the time he was more than a little vexed - would audiences buy an operatic work that lacked traditional scene changes? You might be rather more put off by the fact it's (probably) in Russian and Hungarian, but don't worry - there's a full synopsis here.

Esclin Syndo (Concert)

A38 Roof Terrace, 3rd June, 21:00
500Ft, includes drink
Petőfi hid [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

If you look very carefully at that picture, you'll notice that it's actually for a different concert. So... don't. It's still advertising Esclin Syndo, an outfit who count Tricky, Portishead, Cinematic Orchestra and Massive Attack among their influences. And I thought trip-hop was dead.

Rekontra (Concert)

Pótkulcs, from 21:0
0, 3rd June, free
Csengery u. 65/b [map]
Pest, VI, Nyugati pu (T 4,6, M3), 5 min

As ever, hard-to-find
Pótkulcs hosts Rekontra, who appear to be the same band as Berkó Együttes, who usually play Pótkulcs on a Tuesday. Whatever the name, they still breathe more life into traditional folk music than you might think possible.

Inland Empire (Film)

Művész, 3rd June, 16:15
Teréz körút 30 [map]
Pest, VI, Te
réz körútT4/6), 1 min

David Lynch's latest didn't get much of a release here, but it's playing this evening at Művész. Frightening, infuriating, and at times, really rather boring, it's still a hell of a lot better than this nasty, horrible filth.
