The weekend in Budapest starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday. So for the first day of the weekend, you'd better find yourself something to do...

Philip Glass (Concert)

MUPA, 3rd/4th July, 19:30, 2200 - 5600 ft
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map] [info]
Pest South, IX Millenniumi Kulturális Központ (T2) 3 min

The most dishevelled man in music brings four singers and an 8-man band, including himself, on keyboards. They interpret Leonard Cohen's Book of Longing: the fruits of his years as a monk in Tibet. While the once-rumoured second half of Cohen's tour still fails to materialize, this might be the closest you ever get. Besides, at 71, Glass is a musical maverick who can't have that much left in the batteries himself. Website here.

I'm Not There (Film) Puskin, 12:30; 17:30; 19:45
Six actors take on Dylan in Todd Haynes' ambitious biopic. It could have been awful, but it isn't, and the sections with Cate Blanchett are magnificent. Reviews here.

Lucien Hervé (Exhibition), Mai Manó Ház
A new exhibition of Franco-Hungarian Lucien Hervé's architecturally-inspired black and white, light and dark photography. The Mai Manó Ház website seems a little more focussed on the calendar than the exhibition, but it gives you some idea.

Kávé és Koktél Fesztivál, Millenáris Park
A coffee and cocktail festival? What a good idea! Get drunk then sober up. The opening day is brandy and cognac day. Slow-loading website here.

VOLT (Music Festival), Sopron, 2nd - 5th July
Ok, so this isn't Budapest but with a month left until Sziget, it's a good time for music lovers to head north-west. Website here.
