01/09/08

Anyone would think that we've lost our marbles. First we overlook the existence of Friday. Then Saturday rolls up in the afternoon, and yesterday we directed you to A38 to see something that's not on for another week. (Thanks, Manu, and I hope you found out before you got there.)

The guilty will be punished. (They won't.) But we are in the process of putting the wheels back on this hub thing. You might have noticed that we've started writing articles again: four in the last week (in culture, blog, and eating out.) Also, from Wednesday, the events are going to be taken a hell of a lot more seriously. Well, a bit.

Anyway, I promise that all of these are actually on!

International Cantor Concert

Dohány utca Synagogue

Dohány u. [map]
Pest Centre, VII, Astoria (M2), 3 min

Here's an event that doesn't come along too often. If your idea of singing in places of worship is murmuring the words of a hymn you don't know, or listening to monotone chanting, you might be surprised to find that Jewish cantors are rather different. It's operatic! Try a little in advance. Here's Cantor Azi Schwartz, and here's the Jerusalem Cantors' Choir, both of whom will be there.

Full details and more information on the Jewish Festival here.

Take a chance on...

Bérczesi Róbert Egyszálgitárral (Concert)
Gödör, 1st September, from 20:00, free
One man and his guitar. Here he is on video but you could see him live and in the flesh! There's a lot more banter than song!

Un baiser s'il vous plaît (Film)
Puskin, 1st September, 10:00, 11:15, 13:15, 15:00, 17:00, 18:45, 20:45
A fuck, please, I thought. But although "baiser" means "to fuck", "un baiser" is a kiss. Woody Allen-esque, they reckon. French with Hungarian subtitles. More here.
