24/08/09

'Go out on Tuesday with your friends, when you have a paper due Wednesday!' Strange advice from irresponsible Dad-rocker Tom Petty...perhaps it's a desperate attempt to prove he's still down wiv da kidz....

The Burmese Harp (Film)

Örökmozgó, 18:30, 24th September, free
Erzsébet krt. 39 [map]
Pest Centre, VII, Király utca (T4/6), 3 min

Directors remaking their own films - funny games! This is Kon Ichikawa's re-working of his own 1956 effort, the story of a Japanese platoon in Burma, who find inspiration from their lute player, of all things. This is part of the Japanese film club, which means it's subtitled in English, and more importantly, is free. So, if it's rubbish, you can always make a quick exit. IMDB (1956) here.

Harcsa Veronika, Egri Janos Quartet (Club), Gödör, 24th September, 20:00
Reliable, regular jazz night. Egri Janos has some Italian friends there tonight, apparently.

Turntable Bar (Club), Merlin, 24th September, 21:00
Regular hip-hop and breaks night at Merlin, with Pedro and erm... Negro. Is that really an okay name for a white DJ?

Cheap Cinema Tickets (Film), Palace Cinemas, 24th September, all day.
If sombre, free films about Japanese lute players don't tickle your fancy, you can always shell out 890 ft for Palace's (not that cheap) cinema night. Batman's alright, as is Tropic Thunder, even though it's not quite as funny as it thinks it is. Program here.
