26/11/08

Here's something I didn't know: Emperor Go-Daigo of Japan shares a birthday with American boxer Ronald "Winky" Wright, that day being today. Amazing, huh? They wouldn't have been in the same class at school though because Go-Daigo is some 683 years older. Either he's dead or he's having an extraordinarily good innings. Winky, on the other hand, is 37. Happy Birthday Winky!

The Last Drops (Concert)

Cafe Montmartre, 26th November, 20:30
Zrínyi utca 18 [map]
Pest Centre, V, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út (M1), 4 min

Not been to a 'beer-fueled 4-man alt.country/indie folk/acoustic mashup' for a while? Well, tonight might be the night... The Last Drops will be doing exactly that in the bowels of Cafe Montmartre, which appears to have woken up in the wrong city.

Also worth a gander...

Jazz Wednesday (Jazz)

Gödör, 26th November, 21:00, free
Jazz on a Wednesday. Alpe-Adria Jazz Ensemble (this is all we could drag up on them) and Triton (who have a website that doesn't really work) take the stage in this reliable concert series.

Brand New Heavies (Concert)
A38, 26th November, 21:00, 5000Ft
Christ, are they still going? If the words "send your camel to bed" and "cactus is our friend" mean nothing to you, then you probably weren't around in their heyday.
After chancing it on her own, smooth soul singer N'Dea Davenport has rejoined too, so I guess it's the Good Old Brand New Heavies. Myspace here.

Syrup Club (Club)
Dürer Kert, 26th November, 20:30
Sure Dürer might be a bit of a hike, it being all the way out by City Park and all, but if neo-rave, electric-acid is your thing, it's well worth the trollybus ride. DJ sets from Mesterházy, Gordon, and Atomik. More info here.
