Thomas Ruff: A Retrospective (Exhibition Opening)

Műcsarnok,12th December, 19:00
1200Ft.

If Thomas Ruff wasn't already considered a new staple in the world of fine art photography, then chalk this up to be his breakthrough show. Kudos to Műcsarnok for bringing such an up and comer to Budapest.

The German-born Ruff, learned and honed his craft alongside the Bechers, yet his work is strikingly dissimilar in so many ways. He explores the perimeters of digital photography, while also pushing them. From his work pixelating pornographic pictures or the Twin Towers falling, to his intensely unsettling portraiture, he's multifacited to say the lea

DJ Scotch Egg vs. 666 Cent (Concert)
Dürer Kert, 12th December, 20:30, 1000Ft.
The United Kingdom's very own KFC-loving DJ Scotch Egg walks a very blurry line (the kind you might have to walk if pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence) somewhere between total spazzfest and dance music. Tonight he goes up against Hungary's most renouned grindcore phenom, 666 Cent. Also on the bill for tonight are Failotron, The USA Kings, and Mikrobics. DJs after.

Boys Noize (Concert)
A38, 12th December, 3000Ft (door)
Riding the wave of Daft Punk/Justice-style French techno grooves, Berliner Boys Noize
will have the A38 ship dancing tonight along with a slew of other electroheads. Full line-up here.

Faster Than Life Fest (Concert)
VÖRÖS YUK, 12th December, from 18:00, 600-800Ft.
Miss the high school days of going to see your friends play in their shitty "punk" "rock" "band"? Well, here's your chance to relive the glory days. Irocically enough Shitty Brace are billed as the top act. Also on the bill are some top notch names (to laugh at): My First Ex, High Socks, Beer Lack, Absolutely Not, Sunset, Unbowed, Silent Shout, and The Wheelchair Werewolf.

Budapest Christmas Fair
Vörösmarty tér [map], ongoing, 10:00-20:00, free
The holiday season looms closer and closer. Not in the mood just yet? Well maybe Budapest's 10th Christmas Fair will put you there. Go, fill up on lángos and sausages the size of your arm, grab a forralt bor (mulled wine), and smell the scents of Christmas. It's the perfect chance to get your x-mas shopping done in one fell swoop. Take a waltz around the Christmas tree and see if you can spot the real St. Nick!
