18/12/08

If you're trying to get out of Hungary for the holidays, good luck! Transportation strikes across the entire country's railroads, Budapest's airport and even today's BKV buses will have you trapped...forever. Well let's hope not. Since you're stuck, you might as well check out one of these...

The Herbaliser (Concert)

A38
,18th December, 20:00, 5000Ft
Petőfi hid [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

Along with Coldcut, DJ Food and Funki Porcini, The Herbaliser were high up on the Ninja Tune roster. London's down-tempo jazzy hip-hop label was the hippest thing on the mid-nineties trip-hop scene.
Now on new label, K7, the Herbaliser are leaning soulwards with a new singer, Jessica Darling. See how that's working out here.

Also worth checking out...

Mookie Brando, Bob Pike (Concert)
Treehugger Dan's Lounge
[map], 18th December, 500Ft/300 students
Expats Mookie Brando and Bob Pike will share the stage tonight in what's billed as folk-bluegrass-americana-alt-country, meaning there's something for everyone in this duo. Go browse through the booksale (3 for 1000Ft.), grab a coffee and settle down with some acoustic tunes.

Budapest Christmas Fair
Vörösmarty tér [map], ongoing, 10:00-20:00, free
The holiday season looms closer and closer. Not in the mood just yet? Well maybe Budapest's 10th Christmas Fair will put you there. Go, fill up on lángos and sausages the size of your arm, grab a forralt bor (mulled wine), and drown your transportation strike sorrows. It's the perfect chance to get your x-mas shopping done in one fell swoop as well. Take a waltz around the Christmas tree and see if you can spot the real St. Nick!

LUDDITÁK (Concert)
Dürer Kert, 18th December, 20:30
Hungarian rap? Yep, and it's actually good. The Hungarian language lends itself well to the flows and female-male dynamics of Ludditák. Think the rockier side of hip-hop like the Beastie Boys, but with a but more of a bubblegum factor. Tilos Klub and DJs to follow.

Jamie Winchester (Concert)
Gödör, 18th December, 19:00
Hey there churchies, here's your chance to head out to "the ditch" in all its Glory and check out a heartwarming, God-fearing soft rock singer songwriter. Yeah!
