Hungarian born, American renaissance woman of sorts and most importantly, a very diverse artist, Agnes Denis has a retrospective on display at LUMU. Her work splices social and environmental consciousness on a monumental scale, for example: the wheat field she planted on a New York City landfill in 1982--her best known work. This is truly "public art" at its finest.

Born in Székesfehérvar, Sved was unable to get a place at a Budapest art school (he was Jewish), and instead studied with exiled Bauhaus professers until he himself was expelled from Hungary in 1938. His photographs, therefore, must have mixed feelings about being here. Of course, they were never here, having been taken in Egypt and used to illustrate several books published in his adopted Paris. His dual focus, on ancient and contemporary Egyptian culture, makes for a rich photo-journal and historical treasure.
