16/01/09

Ivan The Terrible was crowned the first Tsar of Russia 462 years ago to the day! He really was terrible. Andre Michelin, on the other hand, had to wait a further 306 years before he could start to think about revolutionising tyres and restaurants. What does this have to do with tonight in Budapest, I hear you ask? Well, they're both related to members of Zdob si Zdub.

Zdob si Zdub (Concert)

A38, 16th January, 21:00
2000 HUF advance; 2500HUF on the door
Petőfi hid [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

It's a night of weirdness tonight on the ship. 'Zdob si Zdub' are from Moldavia, and appropriately sing in Romanian and Russian, along a brassy-Chilli-Pepper Balkan funk groove.

Support comes from the Northeast of Hungary in the form of the extremely lively and intriguingly titled Folk Error. Hungarian folk meets punk. Error! Why has no one else thought of that?

Argentin Táncház (Dance)
Budapest Jazz Club, 16th January, 20:00
Budapest is, without a doubt, táncház capital of the world. Why not throw Argentina on the táncház map as well, along with: Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia? And the list just keeps getting longer...

Nedelni Lide és Kvark (Concert)
Sirály [map] 21:00, 16th January
Ouch! 70s-style Czech rockers Nedělní Lidé (Sunday People) nearly just burst my ear drums, so if you follow this link, be careful! Are they that loud live? Kvark, on the other hand are a brassy, jazzy click your fingers, swing-your-hips, lick your lips type-thing. Myspace here.
