21/04/09

"Tuesday, you see, she had to be free; But somehow I've got to carry on; Lord And. Ride my blues day; Goodbye Tuesday; Ahh Train." Tuesday gibberish there from Lynyrd Skynyrd, and they're right: it's a good day for gibbering...

Malacka és a tahó / Wombolombakéhé (Concert)
Gödör, 21st April, 21:00, free

Self-professed ska-funk-pork-'n'-rollers, Malacka és a tahó (Piglet and the beast), are what Madness might have been had they been completely off their trollies.

Pair that up with French novelty punk-swing band, Wombolombakéhé Orchestra, who brass up "Bullet in the Head", among other things, and you have a particularly rowdy cuckoo's nest.

Or how about...?

Rekontra (Concert)
Pótkulcs 21:00, free
What can we say about Rekontra that we haven't said before? Nothing, so we'll say it again:
they breathe more life into traditional Hungarian folk music than you might think possible. The cimbalom is king! Listen here.

Irie Maffia Soundsystem (Club)
Corvinteto
Well,
Barabás Lorinc and Dagadu Sena have little to do with tonight's proceedings but Columbo, Juno and Dermot are in the house, plying their DJ trade. Myspace here. If you don't fancy it, the roof's open now, so you can sit in the glorified carpark above the city until the sun comes up.

Csángó Táncház (Folk dance)
Fonó, 20:00, 600Ft
No, not Tango, Csángó : Moldavians caught somewhere between being Hungarian and Romanian. Live music from Somos.

Starsky és Hát Jazz Klub: Zsuffa Péter (Concert)
Szimpla Kávézó [map], free
Not to be confused with Szimpla Kert, the more laid back Szimpla Kávézó hosts a series of mellow jazz nights in the cellar downstairs. Low key, free, worth checking out, if only for the atmosphere... and the beer's cheaper too.
