25/04/09

If you were at Leeds University today, you could hit the Catholic Chaplaincy for some Goddy guff over the packed lunch that your mum made for you. Thankfully, that's not your bag. Your bag is a bag of Budapest. But what's in the bag?

Lefties Soul Connection (Concert)

Fáklya, 25th April, 21:00, 1000Ft
68 CsengeryPest Centre, VI, Oktogon (T4/6/M1) 3 min

Straight up raw fuzzy 60s soul-funk from Amsterdam, of all places. "4-3-2-1, uh-huh, here come the girls." Myspace here. Waaaah!

The Qualitons support: all Hammond organ a la Booker T & The MG's or Archie Bell and the Drells. Quality cheese.

Fáklya? Where the Fáklya's that? Csengery utca, a little down from Pótkulcs.

Also worth knowing about...

Fúzió Rádió Festival
Gödör, from 14:00, free
Yes, it's April 25th, which means: it's summer in Budapest! Bring on the free festivals. Gödör doesn't disappoint, with three bands: Domina Massive, with their combination of fuzz and 70s velvety psychedlia, Moszkva tér's New Order electronica and Nu & Apa Neagra's Transylvanian space rock. A cover charge of 935Ft kicks in after 22:00, to pay for 5 more bands. Not a bad deal.

Frenk (Concert)

Jelen 21:00, free
Wonderfully weirdly-named weird band Frenk
won't dent your pockets but might abuse your ears. Robocop-style website here. Video here.

Millencolin
(Concert)
Dürer Kert, 4500Ft adv. / 5000Ft
Swedish skate-punk may or may not be your thing but you've got to give it to Durer Kert: they've put Budapest on the map for smaller touring bands. Stupid price though.

International Book Festival
Millenáris , 10:00 - 20:00
When not mingling with the literati, check out the stacks and stacks from a slew of international publishers. There are usually a few good tables of new English literature, too. More info here.
