31/03/09

Tuesday was originally dubbethed Tuesday because there were two days, Kornikus and Lopinus, that spilled just a hair over Mother Nature's twenty-four hour allotment. Julius Caeser joined both days in what is now known to a much greater populace as Tuesday.

I Can Etno (Concert)

Könyvtár PinceKlub, 21:00, 31st March, Free
ELTE [map], Pest XVIII
Astoria (M2), 1 min

Ever wondered where Budapest's university students hang out during the week? The Könyvtár Klub, hidden within ELTE's Astoria campus, is one the lesser known but more underrated spots. "Tájékos Kedd," or Scummy Tuesday, brings I Can Etno to center stage. Take advantage of cheap beers because hey, it's Tuesday, and didn't your mother ever tell you to save your pocket money for a rainy day, or at least the weekend?

So how about...?

Rekontra (Concert)

Pótkulcs [map], 21:00, free
What can we say about Rekontra that we haven't said before? Nothing, so we'll say it again:
breathe more life into traditional Hungarian folk music than you might think possible. The cimbalom is king! Listen here.

Titanic Film Festival
Uránia, Toldi, Kino, Örökmozgó, various times, 890Ft.
Tuesday nights are probably one of the best times to head to the cinema. You're in luck – the unfortunately-titled Titanic Film Festival, thankfully sans Celine Dion, has plenty on today. Four cinemas host a boat-load of off-beat films every night, and they're in English too. Find today's films here.

Random Trip (Concert)
Instant, 21:30, free
Barabás Lorinc makes yet another appearance on the Budapest music scene, this time joined by Turbo and Qualitons for an improv night billed as "AcousticElectroFunkDisco." Interesting blend. My curiosity has surely been piqued!

Oláh Kálmán Sextet (Concert)
Kőleves [map], 21:00, 800Ft
Kőleves has jumped on the bandwagon with a jazz night of its very own. Dinner and drinks beforehand could make the evening's musical stylings a welcome digestif!

LMP Unplugged Jam (Concert)
A38, 19:00, free
How often is the daily programming at A38 followed by 'ingyenes'? Music to my ears! There's scant detail as to what this gig actually holds in store, but expect serious jamming and even more serious unpluggedness.
