The weekend in Budapest starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday. So for the first day of the weekend, you'd better find yourself something to do...

Man On Wire (Film)

Puskin 14:15; Toldi 17:15, 20:45;
Művész 18:00, 19:30; 14th-20th May

"If I die, what a beautiful death."

In 1974, Frenchman, Philippe Petit achieved what nowadays is literally impossible: walking a high wire suspended between the World Trade Centre's twin towers.

James Marsh's docu-heist movie has also achieved the near impossible: universal acclaim, including an Oscar and a Bafta. Is this the safe distance from which we can all satisfy our curiosity over the twin towers? Yes.

Specko Jedno (Concert)
Budapest Jazz Club [map], 21:00
Hungary's own Deerhoof? Not quite that close, but it would seem that the Specko Jedno vocalist is taking her cues from them, and the music is just as eclectic.

Oláh Dezső Trió (Concert)
Lampás, 21:00, free
The Oláh Dezső Septet is a classical woodwind quartet short this evening. It's perhaps for the best since they surely wouldn't have all fitted into Lampás. Intimate Piano Jazz: Nice. Myspace here.

SynerJazz Ensemble (Concert)
Sirály, 22:00
These guys really don't sound much like Teen Spirit, even if they smell like it. They do have a facebook page though.
