Did you know Harry Houdini was born Erich Weiss in, wait for it, Budapest! No. Yes, indeed. His parents cited weather and pesky controllers on the metro as reason for their immigration to the US of A. If they hadn't crossed the ocean blue, Harry surely would have checked out one of these...
_________________________________________I'm From Barcelona (Concert)
Indie-poppers, I'm From Barcelona (who actually hail from Sweden), take to the stage aboard A38 to promote their latest album, Who Killed Harry Houdini? The collective features a rotating mix of singers/musicians dabbling with everything from the kazoo to the accordion, all centered around lead singer/songwriter Emmanuel Lundgrun. After receiving critical acclaim for their debut album, Let Me Introduce My Friends, I'm From Barcelona's sophomore venture is more lithe and coupled with some powerful vocal backup. It's a unique sound for sure. Also on the bill are Portuguese rockers, Clã, set to kick things off. If this international pair doesn't tickle your fancy, at least head down to the Danube to let I'm From Barcelona know it was J. Gordon Whitehead who delivered the fatal series of gut punches to old Hungarian Harry.

Or how about...?
Random Trip (Concert)

Szandai Mátyás Quartet (Concert)
Kőleves [map], 21:00, 800Ft
Kőleves has jumped on the bandwagon with a jazz night of its very own. Dinner and drinks beforehand could make the evening's musical stylings a welcome digestif!
Rekontra (Concert)
Pótkulcs 21:00, free
Breathing more life into traditional Hungarian folk music than you might think possible on a Tuesday night. The cimbalom is king! Listen here.
Hommage a Ligeti (Concert)
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, MUPA [map], 20:00
The UMZE Chamber Ensemble tackles several of Ligeti's works from the late sixties and early seventies, including, String Quartet No. 2, Double Concerto for Flute and Oboe, and Clocks and Clouds. As avant-garde as classical music gets: atonality is György Atonality Ligeti's middle name.
Transbalkan Collective (Concert)
Könyvtár Klub, [map] 21:00, free
Ever wondered where Budapest's university students hang out on Friday nights? The Könyvtár Klub, hidden within ELTE's Astoria campus, is one the lesser known but more underrated spots. Transbalkan Collective's on tonight. Check them out if you're looking for a fresh spin on more tried and true gypsy folk.
Sweet Flesh (Theatre)
Sirály, 20:00
Romeo and Juliet without the Romeo or, indeed, any of the other characters. Oh, and another Juliet. Confused? This English / Hungarian bilingual production is as much performance art as theatre and explores every aspect of Juliet's character. Full hub review here.
