24/06/09

Celebrate the 184th birthday of famed Hungarian-born newsagent and bookseller WHSmith! Head out into the city and think about what he would have done tonight, had he lived.

Belga (Concert)

MUPA, 24th June, 20:00, 1100-3100Ft
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map]
Pest South, IX Millenniumi Kulturális Központ (T2) 3 min

Three MCs and one DJ: Belga will give your summer a Daisy Age feel. They also mess about quite a bit on stage, so expect upside-down basketball and back-to-front dancing. Check out their rather enjoyable website here.

Go down to MUPA a bit earlier, at 5pm, and you can see some classical music outside.

Also worth a gander...

Random Art Szerda (Club)
Dürer Kert, free
It's Wednesday, what can you expect? Well a "random art Wednesday" of course. Badics Márk, Sütő Márton (of Smarton Trio fame) and Dr. Dermot
promise to make it as random as possible.

PASO
(Concert)
A38 21:00, 500Ft inc. drink
Pannonia - cheese, telephones, and ska, only one of which will be up on stage at A38 tonight. PASO have been around for a while and play uncomplicated, good-time ska - nothing really to write home about, but a lot of fun if you're in the mood. Myspace
here.

The Wrestler (Film)
Művész [map], 16:30
Toldi, 18:30
Mickey Rourke's Oscar nominated performance as a still-passionate, washed-up wrestler with no where to go. Part morality play, part exploration of artifice, Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream) rebounds from his poorly received film, The Fountain, this time to critical acclaim. Seriously worth the trip to the cinema, take my word for it. Trailer here.

Independent Wednesday Night (Club)
Szimpla Kert, free, but beer now costs 550Ft!
What more info do you want about tonight's Indie night other than it's "by Kid"? Who's Kid? Well it's a beer bottle-with-a-nipple sippin' 12-year-old kid spinnin' records of course.
