28/05/09

The weekend in Budapest starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday. So for the first day of the weekend, you'd better find yourself something to do...

The Durgas (Concert)

Gödör, 28th May, from 20:00, 600Ft

"The Grateful Dead of the nineties", according to the
German Rolling Stone. Is that good or bad? At 600Ft, it doesn't cost much to find out (or try before you buy here.)

Supporting are Club Era, who
are not the shitty DJs that their name implies. They are, in fact, Hungarian folk hippies, and if they're anything like as entertaining as this clip, they'll be worth turning up early for.

Also recommended...

Kaukázus (Concert)
Zöld Pardon [map]
If you've never heard "Teszko" then you've never heard a keyboard solo. They're pretty comedy, as you might imagine.

Bonnie & Clyde (Film)
Örökmozgo [map], 20:30
Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway star in "a bona fide landmark in American film" or a "cheap piece of bald-faced slapstick comedy." Reviews here.

Dresch Quartet (Concert)
Kertem, Városliget [map]
Some of the more industrious jazz performers in Budapest, the Dresch Quartet, chill out in the park. Listen here.

Rather you than me...

Ignite (Slideshows)
Treehugger Dan's Lounge [map], 19:30
What is this? How long can 5 minutes seem? With talks not even half as good as this, I'm betting this hour and a half will just fly by. More info here.
