Balkan Beats (Concert/Party)

Gödör, 4th July, 21:00, free

It's the Summer Special tonight! What's so special about it? Nothing in particular but it's usually a good time, and a free good time, at that. Szilvási Gipsy Folk Band's oláh gipsy/latin/balkan combination will beat you up, in a friendly kind of way, or at least make your dog's leg hurt.

Dutch madmen, Caspian Hat Dance, "masters of the face-guitar and smack-smack-drum" claim to play "drunk wedding music" and they do: the gypsy, klezmer version. Myspace
here.

German DJ
Robert Soko will discourage you from going home, peddling the Balkan beats till sunrise.

Also worth knowing about...

Summer On The Chain Bridge (Festival)
Lánchid, all day
Lánchid goes pedestrian every summer, and this weekend it goes all thespian on us too. Lots of theatrical performances, jazz, pop and broadway hits. At 20:30, choose between a fire show on the Pest Side and Chanson on the Buda side. Tough choice. Non, je ne regrette rien. Full programme here.

Balázs Elemér Group (Concert)
Kertem, Városliget [map], 20:00
Pat Metheny, for one, thinks that Balázs Elemér is about the best jazz drummer there is. With some really distinctive vocals from Gábor Winand and Hajdu Klára, the jazz trickles like a mountain stream over smooth pebbles of Hungarian Folk, Renaissance and Baroque. Liquid Jazz; website here.

Miles Away, The Mongoloids, Blk Out, New Morality (Concerts)
Dürer Kert, 2500Ft
This is hardcore: Rarrrr, rarrrrrr, arrrghh, blam, blam, blam, blam, dee di di di di di di di, rarrrr, arrrghh, RAArrrrrrrrrr! Go to the gig, buy the record, annoy your neighbours. Personally I'd rather bite my arm off (and so would they.)
