20/09/09

In 1946 the first Cannes Film Festival opened on 20th September, with 18 nations represented. Exclusive, glamourous and glitzy, it has similarities to a Sunday night in Budapest...

Ship of Fools (Concert)

A38, 20th September, 20:00, 2,000ft in advance 2,500ft on the door
Petőfi hid
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto present a multi media presentation based on the novel by Sebastian Brant. The original text is used alongside guitar riffs and baselines, tango tunes and electronic beats, and the scraping of metal and 'bizarre' sound recordings. Meanwhile projections will show images of debauchery, burlesque dance clips and tiki animations.

An introduction to the performance by László Márton will start at 7 pm at the Orrbár .

Also worth a gander...

Santa Diver (Concert)
Kertem, Városliget [map]
Experimental, psychedelic music from this Hungarian quartet who, while operating within a jazz idiom, are more than happy to blur musical borders. Sometimes trance-like; sometimes free jazz, sometimes like a swooping cinematic soundtrack. Myspace here.

Bukott Angyalok (Concert)

Rocktogon Pub & Roll, [map],
Bukott Angyalok is hungarian for Fallen Angels, which sounds a lot nicer. However this lot play hard rock and take inspiration from Guns n Roses. MySpace here.

DJ OnOff (Club)

Holdudvar
If some tunes under the light of Margitsziget's most hopping (and overpriced) open-air bar is up your alley, head to Holdudvar. To get all you epileptics into a fit, DJ OnOff will be spinning the records and flicking the lights incessantly.
