On this day in 1861 James Naismith, the inventor of Hungary’s national sport - basketball, was born in the freezing tundra of Canada. 148 years later, the last thing the people want to do in Budapest on his birthday is play basketball outside. Escape the chilly courts and check out one of these warm and cozy events…
Tűzraktér, 6th November, 21:00, 500Ft
An impressive Friday night triple bill behind the big yellow church. Indie Garage Rock band, Hippikiller are actually bloody good! They describe themselves as a "bizarre mixture of pseudo art-hard rock and post punk/noise". In fact, they are quite a lot better than that and well worth a listen. This is clearly a band who don't take themselves too seriously and, as a result, manage to come up with fun lyrics and imaginative songs.
Also playing will be Hungary number one indie band, The Walrus, who are playing plenty of gigs around Budapest as part of the launch for their new and impressive EP release. Their raw Indie-rock sound is at its best live. So we can certainly recommend this one very highly!
The triple bill is completed by Kollaps.
Also worth a gander...

Take a more relaxed approach to Friday evening and check out "Spare Key". The violin orchestra will help you to unwind from the busyness of the week.
Bob Pike & the Rainbow Jizz (Concert)
Discover Budapest / Treehugger Dan's Lounge [map], 19:30, 500 ft (300 ft students)
Bob Pike (US) will be performing an acoustic set of songs from his 20 year invisible career and a living room volume set of rock and roll salvation with his band Rainbow Jizz. That's about all the info we can find about this one but it still sounds like fun.
