01/02/10

Around this time in 1880, it was known fact that the Hungarian Sailors of the time were prone to drinking 10-20% of their Pálinka exports en-route to their destination to neighboring trading countries. After the boat had docked in Southampton one morning, one of the English tradesmen boarded the vessel to find, to his surprise, the entire crew of the ship excessively drunk. Being a poet of the time he wrote the famous song 'what shall we do with the drunken sailor early in the morning' where each subsequent verse suggests a different method of sobering (or abusing) said sailor.

Jack Cannon (Concert)
Szimpla Kert, 1st February
Kazinczy u.14 [map]
Pest Centre, VII, Deák tér (M1,2,3), 10 min

All the way from Italiano, this unsigned band, Jack Cannon and his merry band members enters the realms of one of Budapest's favorite bars, Szimpla Kert. Bringing eclectic musical influences from the likes of Emerson Lake Palmer, The Doors, Kraftwork to Bob Marley and Pete Tosh. This psychedelic, progressive rock band sure packs a creative punch and flavour which should suit the likes of anyone who is either a fan of bands like Pink Floyd, or who appreciates the look of someone who looks like Jack Sparrow.

Also worth a checking out...

Pleszkán Triò
Óbudai Társaskör [map] 1500 ft
Pleszkán Frederick, a child prodigy who began his career in Hungary, the virtuoso jazz pianist is considered to be one of the best. Nice style and excellent technique, however, rarely enjoyed by the Hungarian public.

Yasya
Jam Pub [map],
Highly recommended female fronted quintet from Russia. Simple yet unique in their approach, you can expect a multi-genre set from chill out easy listening to something a bit more soviet in style.

Sophie Blues Trió
Fat Mo's Music Club [map], 21:00
Not much information on Sophie or her Blues Trió - but I can assure you that there will be at least three people playing blues music, in Fat Mo's.
