25/02/08

Monday, for some, is the worst day of the week. Geldof, for example. But tonight, thankfully, you're not him. Which means you don't have to dwell on your appalling back-catalogue and you can go out and have fun.

Moldavia Táncház

Könyvtár PinceKlub, 25th Feb, from 20:00, free
ELTE-Trefortkert, Múzeum krt. 4 [map]
Pest, V, Astoria (M2), 1 min

If there's one thing missing from your life, it's learning how they dance the Öves in Moldavia. Danced by the Csángós - but who are the Csángós? (If you follow this link, don't forget to read the argument beneath the video.)

Dózer Fesztivál

Kultiplex, 25th Feb, Free
Kinizsi utca 28 [map]
Pest South, IX, Ferenc körút, (M3, T 4/6), 4 min

They're going to call the bulldozers in pretty soon, so Kultiplex is celebrating its own demise with the Dózer Fesztivál. Find out whether "Echoes of Pink Floyd" is a tribute band, a CD, or simply the reverberations of Syd Barrett and Roger Waters yelling their heads off.

Lámpás (Bar)

Lámpás
Dob utca 15 [map]
Pest Centre, VI, Király utca (T4/6), 5 min

Lampas occupies a basement behind a metal door, which, when closed, looks kind of closed. A relaxed atmosphere and surprisingly cheap beer ensure that it's pretty cosy as cellars go. Tonight, they're showing ancient cartoons with a new DJ: a match made in Lámpás.

The Man From London (Film)

Cirko Gejzir, all week, 15.30, 18.00

Now with English subtitles! But only at Cirko. It might not be one of Bela Tarr's best, but expect the usual... long, slow, beautifully lit scenes, in which people don't talk or move very much.
