"On a Sunday morning sidewalk, I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned..." But Johnny Cash, to the best of my knowledge, was never in Budapest, where there are other options to consider...

Strike! (Film)

Erzsébet krt. 39 [map]
Pest Centre, VII, Király utca (T4/6), 3 min

Take a look at this movie's seriously awful poster, and you might imagine it's some kind of horror film about a sadistic female serial killer in a helmet. But you'd be wrong! Volker Schlöndorff's 2006 powerful drama tells the story of a woman who sparks a revolution in the shipyards of Gdansk. Showing with English subtitles.

Beethoven and Liszt (Concert)

Pest, IX, Milleniumi kulturális központ (T2), 2 min

The world première of Miklós Sugár's string arrangement of Liszt's Via Crucis, originally composed for the organ, is coupled with Beethoven's Mass in C major. Both were composed at the request of Hungarians. Sadly, Prince Nikolaus Esterházy didn't like the latter, putting Beethoven into a bit of a strop.

Széchenyi Baths

Állatkerti körút, Városliget [map]

Pest, XIV, Széchenyi Fürdő (M1), 1 min

Outdoor pools, indoor pools; warm water, mmmm; cold water, aaah; hot water, oooh; a steam room, a sauna... Even though it's under renovation, Széchenyi still offers more than anywhere else. And in the end, you won't have a hangover anymore. You've got absolutely no excuse either because we tell you all you need to know here.

Will there be blood? There's only one way to find out, and that's to catch this at the cinema while you still can. Paul Thomas Anderson's breathtaking film spans thirty years, and has deservedly been hailed an instant classic.

Flea Market

Bolhapiac, Városliget, 9th March, until lunchtime, 120ft.
Pest, XIV, Széchenyi Fürdő, (M1) 5 min

Cheap junk, expensive junk, interesting junk, broken junk, working junk, puzzling junk... there's nowhere better for rubbish on a Sunday morning than the Bolhapiac, in the heart of the city park.
