"On a Sunday morning sidewalk, I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned..." But Johnny Cash, to the best of my knowledge, was never in Budapest, where there are other options to consider...

It's Rite! Breakdance battle. (Battle)

Petőfi Csarnok, Városliget
23rd March, from 3pm, free
Pest, XIV, Széchenyi Fürdő, (M1) 5 min

It's rite, that, and that's the way it is! New York? LA? No, Budapest is where the battle cats are at. Sometimes, these things are like watching a whirling dervish do a rubix cube on the ceiling; sometimes it's like watching a few wannabe-b-boys do forward rolls. Either way, it's all going down today in the B tothe U tothe D tothe A tothe P tothe etc.

Brokeback Mountain (Film)

Művész, 23rd March, 13:15
Teréz körút 30 [map]
Pest, VI, Te
réz körútT4/6), 1 min

A lot of people didn't see this first time round, perhaps because it's a film about two gay cowboys. That's a shame, because it's Heath Ledger's finest performance, good enough to make you genuinely sad he's gone.

Church (Event)

Easter Day, 23rd March
Various places, Hungary [map]

Easter is an important religious festival that most people forget about until they catch a glimpse of supermarkets full of eggs. But, if you would just take it all a little more seriously, you could go to a church of your choice to celebrate Jesus Christ's miraculous escape.

Bach: St. John Passion (Concert)
MUPA, 23rd March, 19:00, 5500 - 15,000 ft
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map]
Pest South, IX Millenniumi Kulturális Központ (T2) 3 min

Christchurch! Who/what on earth is that?! Well, apparently it's JS Bach as he really was, complete with 'eye problems and swollen eyelids'. This facial reconstruction has been alarming fans all over the world, but tonight's performance of the St. John Passion should be a little less frightening. It's conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner, a man responsible for one of the benchmark recordings of Bach's masterpiece.

Old Skool Jungle Ball (Club)

Merlin, from 22.00, 23rd March,
1000 ft, girls free before 10pm

Gerlóczy u.4 [map]
Pest Centre, V, Deak tér (M 1,2,3), 4 min

As tonight's not a skoolnight, there's no need to stay in and do your homework... you could always take your Easter eggs along to Merlin. The usual suspects - Palotai, Cadik, Sim and Ozon - are supplying the tunes.

The Wind that Shakes the Barley (Film)

Hunnia, 23rd March, 20:00
Erzsébet krt. 26 [map]
Pest Centre, VII, Király utca (T4/6), 4 min

Somehow, Ken Loach's award winning film is still playing, a year after its release. Not one of his best, perhaps, but this story of the IRA's beginnings is well worth a few hundred forints. Shooting, talking... more shooting, more talking... a bit more shooting, a bit more talking - in the middle of all this, there's an excellent performance from Cillian Murphy.

Super Sunday! TM (Football)

Sky, Eurosport 2 (TV), 23rd March, from 14:30
Lots of places, Hungary [map]

Are the Premier League and Sky in cahoots? Has someone fixed the fixtures - how else can we be in line for the second Super Sunday (tm) of the season? Liverpool against Manchester United, Arsenal versus Chelsea - will Emmanuel Adebayor be crying into his biscuits come seven o'clock?
