Today is the shadow of tomorrow. Today is the present future of yesterday. Yesterday is the shadow of today. The darkness of the past is yesterday and the light of the past is yesterday. The days of yesterday are all numbered in sum. In the world once. Because once upon a time there was a yesterday.

The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes (Film)

Toldi, all week, 17:00, 18:45, 21:00
Bajcsy-Zsilinszky ut, 36-38 [map]
Pest, V, Arany János u(M3), 2 min

Better known for their short films, the Quay Brothers are also a lot better at making short films. This feature was made in 2005 - it's bound to be visually arresting, but it has a silly title and a silly plot...'a piano tuner is drawn into an evil doctor's plot to turn an opera singer into an automaton.' Reviews here.

Szilvási Gipsy Folk Band (Concert)

Corvintető, 24th March, 600 ft
Corvin Áruház, Blaha Lujza tér 1-2 [map]

Pest Centre, VIII, Blaha Lujza tér (M2, T4/6), 1 min

With their Oláh gipsy/latin/balkan combination, these guys are undeniably fun - just check out "My dog's leg hurts" for proof. The last album was called "Folklore beats you up" but don't fight it, feel it.

Parsifal (Opera)

Hungarian State Opera, 24th March, 17:00
Andrássy út 22 [map] [tickets]
Tel. 331 2550
Pest Centre, Opera (M1), 1 min

Wagner's final opera tells the story of an Arthurian knight's quest for the Holy Grail. Tickets are here and a synopsis here, because it's probably in Hungarian and German... all together now!... 'Doch wann's in Gefahr der Hilfe gilt, der Eifer fuehrt sie schier durch die Luft, die nie euch dann zum Danke ruft. Ich waehne, ist dies Schaden, so taet er euch gut geraten.'

The Assassination of Jesse James... (Film)

Uránia, 24th March, 13:00

...by the Coward Robert Ford! What a long title! We had to chop it in half! At 160 minutes, this sedate Western is a long film too, but it's picked up some good reviews and looks to be a cut above the usual Brad Pitt dross-fest.
