13/04/08

Hey, Sunday Sun, let's go walkin' and we'll talk about some things, kick my shoes off and we'll dream about some dreams, got to get away when the world gets on me, get out to the city and find something to see...

Concert for Tibet

Gödör, 13th April, 21.00, free

With the plight of Tibet reaching a peak of publicity, Gödör does its bit for the cause, with various performances, including Tibetan groups and folk music from Transylvania. Perhaps the highlight is Dharma Bums (US), who, formed in the 70s, are not new to campaigning for a free Tibet. They've also played for the Dalai Lama...twice. (Which means he likes them.) The sound is straight out of Woodstock.

Très bien, merci (Film)

Vörösmarty Mozi, 13th April, 16:45
Üllői út 4 [map]
Pest, VIII, Kálvin tér (M3), 1 min

How are you? Not so good really: the police have gone all Kafka on me.

The danger that the public worries so much about terrorism that it forgets about freedom is a genuine issue, so it's perhaps not so surprising that you have to go to a film festival to watch this.

(English title: "Very Well, Thank You")

Táncház (Folk Music Club)

Trafó Bár Tangó, 13th April, 20:00, 600Ft
Liliom utca 41 [map]
Pest, IX, Ferenc körút (M3), 3 min
Tel. 061 456 2040

It's maybe a little difficult to imagine a táncház in Trafó Bár Tangó, but now that Almassy Tér has closed down, someone's got to pick up the pieces of the folk-fuelled youth. Tonight, Műhely Zenekar provide the strings.

Jar City (Film)

Uránia, 13th April, 18:00

Grim police procedural, which did very well in the US. The Toronto International Film Festival described it as moody and troubling, which funnily enough, is exactly how I picture Iceland.

Flea Market (Market)

Bolhapiac, Városliget, 13th April, until lunchtime, 120ft.
Pest, XIV, Széchenyi Fürdő, (M1) 5 min

When's the last time you went to a car boot sale? Cheap junk, expensive junk, interesting junk, broken junk, working junk, puzzling junk... there's nowhere better for rubbish on a Sunday morning than the Bolhapiac, in the heart of the city park. Just look how happy it made Andy T! >>>>
