Critical Mass (Bike Ride/Demonstration)
The revenge of the cyclists continues! Budapest's Critical Mass is the largest in the world, would you believe? Join 30,000 cyclists, as they ride around the centre of Budapest for two hours, in a vast swarm. Then to Városliget, where you can raise your bike in the air for the symbolic "fuck you" to all polluting types. Raising environmental awareness has never been such fun!
_________________________________All polluting types, on the other hand, will be just around the corner, on Hősök tere, for the start of the Central Europe Rally. After the cancellation of the Dakar rally, several car manufacturers needed to find something to fill their time. Running for six days and 3,000km down to Romania and back up to Balaton, the rally will please motorheads and nark environmentalists. Maybe there'll be a fight! Further info here.

Get out your samplers and your saxophones, it's the surprisingly inventive Place Moscow. You might call it acid techno-rock or skunk-funk-trip-hop; musical genres have now reached ludicrous dimensions! If the Lo-fidelity Allstars had smoked a few more joints and never met their frontman, they would have occupied a similar space. Could this be the first Hungarian rock band that I'd actually listen to at home?

Gus van Sant's latest movie, which could be seen as the third part of a trilogy, following Elephant and Last Days, once more examines youth. In a plot with overtones of Crime and Punishment, Van Sant gets into the head of a teenage boy, in all its anguish and loneliness. Moving. (Trailer here).

The Finns don't half make a song and a dance about the roots of their culture! Well tonight, they do, at least. Traditional Runo music accompanied by Nils Petter Molvaer's sublime trumpet would already be reason enough to go. Add to that an ancient, epic story combined with contemporary dance theatre, and you have an evening to remember. More details here.
