LUMU hosts a Richard Stanley marathon (complete, as usual, with a marathon introduction in Hungarian - get there late, or take a jigsaw.) Stanley was fired from the high profile remake of 1996's The Island of Doctor Moreau but bounced back by dropping off the radar completely, to make documentaries like The White Darkness, about voodoo in Haiti. Tonight, there's also a screening of Dust Devil, the film that caught people's attention in the first place. It's a warped, South African version of The Hitcher, with witchcraft, mysticism, gore, and great cinematography.

'Romeo, Romeo, let down your hair to me!' The perfect thing for a Friday night - Prokofiev's sweeping adaptation of Ромео и Джульетта, at the Hungarian State Opera. During the famous balcony scene, when Juliet climbs up Romeo's beautiful braids, take a look around... there won't be a dry eye in the house!

Omar Bashir is an Iraqi-Hungarian artist whose trio fuse jazz, flamenco and world music, with melodies that date back 3000 years. This should be pretty interesting, even though the MUPA website confusingly states that his 2001 album 'enjoyed better sales in the world music charts than the likes of Bjork.' What that means, I have no idea.

Way back in 2004, Sizzla, the 'conscious' reggae artist was banned from peforming in the UK after controversy over his ridiculous lyrics. Here's what the head of the UK-based OutRage! had to say... Sizzla's 'songs promote the murder of gays and lesbians. If his performances had gone ahead they may have led to public disorder and to homophobic and racist hate crimes'. No such problems in Hungary though, and no mention of any of this on the A38 website. Amazing!
