19/05/08

Yesterday belongs to the dead. Because the dead belongs to the past. The past is yesterday. Today is the preview of tomorrow but for me, only for my better and happier point of view. My point of view is... look I haven't been getting out enough, ok? Maybe I'll try...

Serial Mom (Film)

Örökmozgó, 16:30, 19th May
Erzsébet krt. 39 [map]
Pest Centre, VII, Király utca (T4/6), 3 min

Originally released in 1994, Serial Mom is back on the big screen this afternoon. It's a satirical take on suburbia and the media, with plenty of set pieces and gags in spectacularly bad taste. Which is the least you'd expect from John Waters, the man behind Pink Flamingos.

Christian Death (Concert)

A38, 19th May, 4500Ft door, 3900Ft advance
Petőfi hid [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

Lovely. Christian Death. The 'founding fathers of American Goth Rock,' who 'took a stand against organised religion and conventional morality'. How nice! They have the most adorable album titles too... All the Hate, Pornographic Messiah, Sexy Death God and not to mention, Sex and Drugs and Jesus Christ. Goodness gracious! Leave your vicar at home! (That's not an album title, just a piece of advice). Myspace here.

Nádler István / Fluxus East (Exhibitions)

LUMÚ, until 1st June
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map]
Pest, IX, Boraros tér (T 4,6), 8 min
Tel. 555-3444

After a long spell playing with black, white and blue, Nádler István has turned back to colour in a big way and it's these recent works, with strong vertical gestures that dominate the imaginatively-titled exhibition, "...vertical..." Meanwhile, on the same ticket, you can assess the Fluxus capacity of the old eastern bloc.

ColorStar (Concert)

Zöld Pardon, 19th May, from 20:00

Goldmann György tér 6 [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

There's something a little too safe about ColorStar, who think they're a lot more psychedelic than they are. My dad would probably like them. On the other hand, the name makes them sound a lot worse than they are too and if it's a balmy evening, at least you'll be outside with a reasonably pleasant distraction.

The Police Tribute Band (Concert)

Morrison's 2, 19th May 21:00
Szent István körút/Honvéd utca corner [map]
Pest, V, Nyugati (T4/6, M3), 3 min

Now, there are certain advantages of going to see a Police tribute band, namely that you don't have to see Sting. Long before he started doing duets with Dave Craigid, he did have a pretty decent band. We can't promise that these guys will do the songs justice but there really aren't many better options tonight.
