26/05/08

Yesterday belongs to the dead. Because the dead belongs to the past. The past is yesterday. Today is the preview of tomorrow but for me, only for my better and happier point of view. My point of view is... look I haven't been getting out enough, ok? Maybe I'll try...

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (Concert)

Petőfi Csarnok, Városliget,
26th May, 9900 ft
Pest, XIV, Széchenyi Fürdő, (M1) 5 min

Pretty boy, Nick Cave takes his band of raucous desperados to the market for one night only. Part Cash, part Cohen, part Frankenstein’s monster, Cave moves from ballad to rock-out in the blink of a murderous eye. New album "Dig, Lazarus Dig!!!" has received 4 and 5-star reviews all over the place, from Rolling Stone to The Sun! And he's still sporting that ridiculous moustache!

Requiem for a Dream (Film)

Örökmozgó, 16:30, 26th May
Erzsébet krt. 39 [map]
Pest Centre, VII, Király utca (T4/6), 3 min

Örökmozgó's Absurd America season continues with Darren Aronofsky's beatiful looking film about beautiful looking drug addicts injecting smack into their beautiful looking arms. It's intense and powerful, and a far cry from the film he made next, which unfortunately, was complete and utter bobbins.

Graduation! The first steps out into a fierce, uncaring world. (Unless you're staying on to do a masters). The Graduates' exhibition at the Fine Arts Academy on Andrassy runs for a month, and is naturally, the best place in town to catch the Hungarian artists of tomorrow, today.

The Syndicate (Concert)

A38, 26th May, 20.00
3500Ft advance, 4000Ft door

Petőfi hid [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

Jazz legend Joe Zawinul died last year, but his band lives on - this tribute to him features the Syndicate, a group of young musicians that Zawinul picked up on his travels. When I saw them in 2006 they were awesome, but Joe's a hard man to replace. Can they still be as good, or will it be like watching the Bad Seeds with a new vocalist?
