27/05/08

We'd like to apologise on behalf of the events for Tuesday - just like last week, they should have been posted on Thursday, but once again, have rocked up at the last minute, hair all over the place, stinking of fags and booze, wearing a rakish grin. (Tuck your shirt in, events. You're a disgrace.)

PASO (Concert)

A38 Roof Terrace, 27th May, 21:00
500Ft, includes drink
Petőfi hid [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

Pannonia - cheese, telephones, and ska, only one of which will be up on stage at a38 tonight. PASO have been around for a while and play uncomplicated, good-time ska - nothing really to write home about, but a lot of fun if you're in the mood. (My space here.)

Iron Man (Film)

MOM Park, all week, 17:00
Alkotás u. 53 [map]
Buda, XII, Csörsz u.(T61), 1 min

Robert Downey Jr plays Tony Starks, 'one of the nation's leading scientists', who gets captured in Afghanistan, builds a big robot suit, escapes from Afghanistan, builds another big robot suit, then has a battle with Jeff Bridges who is also wearing a big robot suit... in a scene that looks like it came straight from Transformers. Wow! The first blockbuster of the summer is stuffed full of hoary old superhero cliches, but it's still surprisingly good. Reviews here.

Bodies (Exhibition)

VAM Design Center, 3300 ft adult,
weekday, 3900 ft, adult, weekend.
[map]
Pest Centre, VI, Deak F. ter (M 1,2,3) 4 min

"I would no more go to an exhibition of dead bodies than I would eat a live one", said Germaine Greer, although she was probably trying to cover for the fact that she does eat them. The Catholic Church wasn't too keen either. But you may find that your squeamishness is overcome by the fascination of having the most realistic - real, in fact - insight into what's going on inside you that you'll ever see.

Rekontra (Concert)

Pótkulcs, from 21:0
0, 27th May, free
Csengery u. 65/b [map]
Pest, VI, Nyugati pu (T 4,6, M3), 5 min

As ever, hard-to-find
Pótkulcs hosts Rekontra, who appear to be the same band as Berkó Együttes, who usually play Pótkulcs on a Tuesday. Whatever the name, they still breathe more life into traditional folk music than you might think possible.
