The weekend in Budapest starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday. So for the first day of the weekend, you'd better find yourself something to do...

Gödör Táncház (Folk dance)

Gödör, 2nd October, from 8, free

If your image of a táncház is old fogies in a stuffy community centre you're plain wrong, because this is where the hip young Hungarians be at. Sure, there may be more leaping and slapping and twirling around but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Tonight, Bivaly Zenekar and Csürrentö supply the happening folk with some happening folk.

Mamma Mia, Sing-a-long version (Film)

MOM Park, 2nd October, 14:45, 17:00, 19:15, 21:30
I kid you not. Personally, I couldn't think of a worse place to be, but maybe you really, really, really love Mamma Mia, or maybe you just want to do something different. Well, best of luck.

Carboonfools, Amber Smith (Concert)
A38, 2nd October, 21:00, 1500Ft adv; 2000Ft door
One of the bright lights of the slightly derivative hungo rock scene, Carbonfools, have an album out. And this is the related party. Myspace here.

Punkshow (Club)

Filter, 2nd October, from 22:30, free
Punk goes to disco tonight for Filter's regular indie party. My my, this part of town is going down in the world. I remember Thursday nights, when it was young folk dancers slumped in drunken heaps outside the leisure centre, being sick on themselves. And now, punks! Dearie me.
