13/11/08

The weekend in Budapest starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday. So for the first day of the weekend, you'd better find yourself something to do...

Larsen feat. James Stewart of Xiu Xiu & Julia Kent of Antony and the Johnsons (Concert)

Take Five, 13th November, 20:00, 2000 ft.
Paulay Ede u. 2 [map]

Italian experimentalists, Larsen have enlisted like minded American indie stalwarts, James Stewart and Julia Kent to bring their brand of minimalist indie pop to Budapest. The long distance collaboration between Xiu Xiu and Larsen has been a long time going in a project known as XXL (Xiu Xiu Larsen) and this is simply a continuation of that. Get ready for techno beats meets indie meloncholy. A bit more info on Larsen here.

Also worth checking out...

!Deladap (Concert)

A38, 13th November, 21:00, 3000 ft.
Rootsy but not retro... and quite poppy. A Central European mish-mash of musicians led by Czech producer Stani Vana, with two Czech-Roma singers. Preview the new album here. Tickets and further details here.

Maximo-Pop Indie Party (Club)
Filter Club, 13th November, 20:00, free
The night starts off with sets by the Dirty Cocks and Alcatraz, which can presumably only be punk. Still, after 22:30, the punkers kick it with the indie-kids and the beat-niks to DJ sets of indie, pop, 80's new wave and post-punk until they shuffle themselves to sleep.

Horse The Band (Concert)
Kuplung, 13th November, 20:00
Well there is certainly no shortage of concerts on tonight in Budapest. If old Nintendo-esque 16-bit sythesizers mixed with hardcore/metal raises your eyebrow, then Horse The Band (USA) is the show you should be at tonight. Don't forget your old NES controller to swing in the air, to dress up like your favorite Mario Brother, and to hide beers in the bushes outside the club to drink after (because we've tested said bushes outside Kuplung), just don't say we told you to.
