Some people will be watching the Abba effort at the Papp László this evening but you won't because it's sold out. It's probably for the best; imagine a Hungarian Abba sing-a-long! Shudder. But don't have nightmares, try...

Jedi Mind Tricks (Concert)
Dürer Kert, 11th February, from 21:00, 3700-4200Ft
Ajtósi Dürer sor 19–21 [map]
Zichy Geza utca, (Trolley 74)
Dürer kert seems to be on to something. Is this the beginning of the end of Budapest's mysterious inability to attract proper acts? Jedi Mind Tricks are as real and raw as US hip-hop in Budapest is likely to get. And unlike Nas, they may even show up. A socially aware, hard-hitting, slightly unhinged balance of confrontational lyrics with tight production. Myspace here; tons of Youtube here.

Also worth a gander...
Jazztalk feat. Word Citizen (DJ)
Merlin, 11th February, 21:00, free
Laszlo Najmanyi has several aliases, of which Word Citizen and Sir David O'Clock have been picked tonight. An electronic odyssey into jazz and ethereal theremin awaits, apparently.
Anna Karenina (Opera)
Hungarian State Opera [map] [tickets], 11th February, 19:00, 400Ft-11,900
How many times have you walked past the Opera House without going in? With tickets starting at 400Ft, it might be worth a crack. But since subtitles are in Hungarian, read a synopsis first, or indeed, the entire novel here.
Control (Film)
Európa, 11th February, 800Ft
She's lost Control again. She's lost Control. No, look there it is at Europa. Photographer turned director, Anton Corbijn depicts the tumultuous emotional and personal life of Ian Curtis. Spot on and visually stunning to boot, although his wife didn't think so.
