24/02/09

According to the international standard ISO 8601, Tuesday is the second day of the week! My socks, on the other hand are likely testify otherwise. But who should we believe? (If these thoughts interest you at all, you're beyond rescue.)

Sonic Boom Six (Concert)

Dürer Kert, 24th February, from 20:00, 4200-4800Ft
Ajtósi Dürer sor 19–21 [map]
Zichy Geza utca, (Trolley 74)

No, not drone-meister experimental spaceman Sonic Boom, this is Sonic Boom Six.

Part British hip-hop, in a quicker-lipped Lily Allen chipmunk-like way, and part anthemic ska/pop-punk, Sonic Boom Six is sure to please "ver kids" and to that effect are arguably "happening."
If you're over the age of seventeen, however, it may be a bit like being in the playground watching the cool kids learning to smoke cigarettes.

Or how about...?

Corner Dely (Jazz)
Szimpla Kert, 24th February, 19:30
What better way to nurse your Monday woes than to dig on some progressive jazz and sip on a drink at the ever-popular ruin bar, known simply as Szimpla. Check out Corner Dely (a take on "corner deli"? Is there such a thing?) here.

Jamie Winchester (Concert)
Gödör, 24th February, 19:00
Hey there churchies, here's your chance to head out to "the ditch" in all its Glory and check out a heartwarming, God-fearing soft rock singer-songwriter. What if God was one of us? They tried that and they crucified the guy. Poor bugger. Yeah!

Kaukázus (Concert)
Szeparé Bisztró, 24th February, 20:00
If you've never heard "Teszko" then you've never heard a keyboard solo. They're pretty comedy, as you might imagine.

Rekontra (Concert)

Pótkulcs [map], 21:00, 24th February, free
What can we say about Rekontra that we haven't said before? Nothing, so we'll say it again:
breathe more life into traditional Hungarian folk music than you might think possible. The cimbalom is king! Listen here.

Busójárás (Carnival)
Mohács, 21st- 24th February, from 15:30
It's 170km to Mohács but this is the last day of Hungary's most unusual festival. Scary masks and flaming torches frighten off winter spirits, the Turks and anyone else who gets in their way. You've seen the Wicker Man, right? That happens for real at 17.30! Get a video taster here; official website here; blogger's account here.
