Slumdog Millionaire (Film)

Teréz körút 30 [map]
Pest, VI, Teréz körút T4/6), 1 min

Puskin, 23rd February, 14:30, 16:45, 19:00, 21:15
Kossuth Lajos utca 18 [map]
Pest, V, Astoria (M2), 1 min

An unlikely love story finds an Indian youngster on the popular television show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, simply to find his one true astray. It's being hailed by critics and fans alike and is up for 10 Oscars (this being written before the Awards) after already winning an impressive grip of awards from around the world. All this from a film with an otherwise unknown cast.

Sure today is the day after the Academy Awards, but it's the perfect time to see what all the hype is about. Budapest is finally on point with new releases, so get it while it's hot, and don't worry about the fact that much of it is foreign language. The subtitles appear on screen in a funky way, which has probably been retained on the Hungarian copy.

Trailer here and IMDB here.

Also worth a shot...

Busójárás (Carnival)
Mohács, 21st- 24th February, from 12:00
It's 170km to Mohács but you may think that the most celebrated festival in Hungary is worth the trip. Scary masks and flaming torches frighten off winter spirits, the Turks and anyone else who gets in their way. You've seen the Wicker Man, right? Fehér Ferenc: Sirmzemanze (Contemporary Dance)
Gödör, 23rd February, 20:30, free
Contemporary dance can be a number of things. It could be writhing naked on the floor, twitching to African beats, or touching yourself inappropriately on stage, but here's what you can expect from Fehér Ferenc, him playing with a stick.

Moldavia Táncház
Könyvtár PinceKlub [map], 23rd February, 21:00, free
If there's one thing missing from your life, it's learning how they dance the Öves in Moldavia. Danced by the Csángós - but who are the Csángós? (If you follow this link, don't forget to read the argument beneath the video.)
