02/03/09

Erm, can anyone tell me where all the events have gone? Did all the promoters go on strike for a day? There's not even anything on at the opera! Maybe stay in then! Or...?

Milk (Film)

Művész, 2nd March, 15:00, 17:30, 19:45, 22:05
Teréz körút 30 [map]
Pest, VI, Teréz körút T4/6), 1 min

Puskin, 2nd March, 13:00, 15:15, 17:45, 20:15, 21:30
Kossuth Lajos utca 18 [map]
Pest, V, Astoria (M2), 1 min

Harvey Milk was gay! The first openly gay US politician, that is. Gus Van Sant's warm, evocative docu-drama captures the spirit of a man on a personal and political mission, and won two Oscars for its efforts. Universally rave reviews here.

Also worth a shot...

New Sounds (Concert)
Gödör, 2nd March, 20.00, free
Kvark are a brassy, jazzy click your fingers, swing-your-hips, lick your lips type-thing. Myspace here. Meanwhile, drums is the word for FM ZerO, derbukas, in fact. Sax and bass gives it a bit more melody but aren't really enough to distinguish one song from another. But it's the vibe, man. See if you agree here.

Carmina Burana (Light Show)
LézerSzínház, Népliget(M3) 2nd March, 19:00, 2390Ft (what???)
Carl Orff's most famous piece gets the laser treatment. 26 projectors, 4 computers, 2 watercooled gas-lasers, prisms, filters, hundreds of mirrors and... a CD player. The 1980s have arrived.
Spinning Heads (Concert)
Fészek Művészklub [map], 2nd March
What's better than U2? A U2 tribute band. That way you don't have to look at Bono or The Edge, wanting to smash their smug faces in. (Or is that just me?)
