Until the 8th, Vörösmarty Mozi will be showcasing a slew of eye-opening documentaries (and less notably, anthropological films) from filmmakers around around the continent. Films ranging from shorts to features aim to show "cultural diversity through the eyes of European filmmakers." Last year's entries included everything from the "AIDS-situation in Ukraine to the mediahack in the Hungarian press." Intruiging. The nights are split into neat little segments according to categories (European documentary, European anthropology, Hungarian documentary, Student shorts) for your viewing convenience. Films start bright and early Wednesday morning at 10:30. For more information check out the official website here. Confusing timetable here.
Or how about...?
Rekontra (Concert)
Pótkulcs [map], 21:00, 3rd March, free
What can we say about Rekontra that we haven't said before? Nothing, so we'll say it again: breathe more life into traditional Hungarian folk music than you might think possible. The cimbalom is king! Listen here.
Szalai Péter (Concert)
Sirály, 3rd March, 21:00
Szalai Péter is joined by local favorites Szőke Szabolcs and the Tóth Evelin Trió for some low key evening tunes. No internet presence but hey, it's free, and you can count on Sirály not to disappoint.
Milk (Film)
Művész, [map] 3rd March, 15:00, 17:30, 19:45, 22:05
Harvey Milk was gay! The first openly gay US politician, that is. Gus Van Sant's warm, evocative docu-drama captures the spirit of a man on a personal and political mission, and won two Oscars for its efforts. Universally rave reviews here.
