19/03/09

The weekend in Budapest starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday. So for the first day of the weekend, you'd better find yourself something to do...

Streetlight Manifesto (Concert)

Corvintető, 19th March, 20:00
Corvin Áruház, Blaha Lujza tér 1-2 [map]
Pest Centre, VIII, Blaha Lujza tér (M2, T4/6), 1 min

If you hit adolescence while living in New Jersey in the early 2000s, then you know that ska-punk band Catch 22, also known as the former incarnation of Streetlight Manifesto. While ska-heads don't stay ska-heads for long – likely to grow out of the phase in just a few short years – it's not often that expats are able to riff on some nostalgia (it might be the only thing that sparks your interest) by way of music.

Since this seems to be a last-minute show, following the skankin' is Goodfellaz Urban Night with the likes of
Cadik, who spit some pretty insane rhymes, I think I heard something about bringin' your George Foreman overseas and "gettin' the fuck outta Michigan."

Jambalaya (Concert)
Szilvuplé [website], 19th March, 21.00
Plinky plonky, honky-tonky, New Orleans soulful brassy blues. Think Professor Longhair, Dr. John or The Band in their Life's a Carnival stage. Marosi Zoltán guests on accordian. Myspace here. Website here.

Negative (Concert)
Club Diesel, 19th March, 19:00, 4500 adv./5000 door
Typical Negative songs by a Negative Finish emo-metal dude band. You'll positively have Negative fun if you find yourself actually liking this heap of steamy "Karma Killer".

Jazz Pistols (Concert)
Gödör, 19th March, 21:00, 1000Ft.
Germany's Jazz Pistols certainly are no seminal band to the jazz genre as the Sex Pistols were to punk, though their name might suggest otherwise. Also on is Hungary's ethereal and upbeat Azuma Clan.
