Happy 354th birthday, Nathanial Hale! If he had but one day to spend in Budapest, he'd probably be spending it at one of these...

World Music Festival (Concert)

6th June, from 15:00all day, free

What better way to start your Saturday than to head down to Erzsébet tér for a non-stop music festival. Truly the gift that keeps on giving. While the programming is certainly more Central Europe than World, the lineup certainly has a unique local flavour.

Donautalere, from Germany, kick things off, followed by a slew of Polish, Gypsy, Croatian and Hungarian folk bands. The day's festivities wind down (or up, depending on your perspective) at Gödör Klub for the latest installment of Balkan Beats. Sure to be a bumpin' good time.

Full list of the day's programming here.

Also worth knowing about...

Superbutt (Concert)
Dürer Kert, 22:00
Superbutt? Seriously? Very much so. Renowned metal rockers headline a night of free bands that include the likes of Lady Picture Show, Cadaveres, Nuke, Wrong Side of the Wall and Locust on the Saddle. Take a listen here.

Xzibit (Concert)
Syma , 21:00, 6000Ft
Kids, Xzibit's coming to town, and he going to pimp... your... ride! No joke. Bring your beat up Ladas and Trabants in the afternoon for the oxymoronic American "tune up" auto show and stick around for MTV's finest rapper since... Well, hopefully he'll be more entertaining than on his show.

Control (Film)
LUMU, 18:00
She's lost Control again. She's lost Control. Coinciding with photographer turned director, Anton Corbijn's exhibition currently on at LUMU, here's the film depicting the tumultuous emotional and personal life of Ian Curtis. Spot on and visually stunning to boot, although his wife didn't think so.

Write4Gold Hip-Hop Festival (Concert)
Köztársaság tér [map], 10:00-22:00, free
Spend an entire morning and evening at the only place in Budapest where it's cool to wear a du-rag. Get in on everything from tagging to freestyling. Kriminal Beats gets the party started at 21:00. Full order of events here.

Downtown Fantasy III (Fantasy)
Szabadság tér [map], from 17:30, free
Strange happenings outside MTV... Downtown Fantasy... what's that then? Well, follow this link and click the back of the flyer for a blurb in English. Concerts from Zuboly, Kiscsillag and Quimby are followed by "Quiet Cinema" where everyone wears headphones and watches films till late. Weird.
