Zagar is a progressive electro-indie band who do a fair bit of shoegazing. Tonight's concert is in the rolling meadows of Zöld Pardon - well, it's outdoors, anyway - so hope for clear skies. To get you in the summer mood, here's a taste of snow.
Also recommended...
Flea Market (Flea Market)
Bolhapiac, City Park, morning only, 120Ft.
Sunday wouldn't be Sunday without rummaging through a load of rubbish, especially now that the weather is beautiful. Old nudie magazines, used underwear, written-on postcards, stolen mobile phones, hey maybe you can even pick up some pre-war cigarette butts! Be sure to get there early to get dibs on the best crap! Hub article here.
Sex, Lies, and Videotape (Film)
Örökmozgo [map], 20:30
Thanks to the release of Che all over Budapest, director Steven Soderbergh is having a bit of a film retrospective at Örökmozgo. This was the film that set his career off and started a 90s indie film revolution while also exploring sexual deviance at the forefront. Stunning reviews here.
Che: Part One (Film)
Puskin, 10:30
Művész [map], 16:30, 19:00, 21:30
Toldi, 16:45, 19:00
2008 Cannes' Best Actor Award winner, Benicio del Toro plays everyone's favorite revolutionary in part one of Che's biopic. Non-bi-linguists beware: when films mix languages (in this case English and Spanish) the subtitled parts tend (and probably do in this case, but you never know) to get covered up by the Hungarian subtitles, mucking things up a bit. Trailer here.
Greenfields (Concert)
Fészek Művészklub [map], 20:00
"The official site of Greenfields the best Irish folk music group in Hungary is on the Internet now", it says, on what is presumably the official site of Greenfields, the best Irish folk music group in Hungary. Website here.
The Wrestler (Film)
Művész [map], 19:15, 21:45
Puskin, 20:45
Mickey Rourke's Oscar nominated performance as an identity befuddled, puffed up wrestler. Part morality play, part exploration of artifice, Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream) rebounds from his poorly received film, The Fountain, this time to critical acclaim. Trailer here.
