Last year's week-long Athe Sam, a cultural festival designed to combat negative stereotyping of the Romani population, was nothing short of a triumph. Discussion, documentaries, performance, exhibitions and a bill that reads like a who's who of Hungarian Roma music, this week-long event is also completely free. Some puppet theater, gets the ball rolling tonight followed up by music, plays, and DJs. Details here.

Take a chance on...
Erin Brockovich (Film)
Örökmozgo [map], 20:30
Thanks to the release of Che all over Budapest, director Steven Soderbergh is having a bit of a film retrospective at Örökmozgo. Julia Roberts plays one tough and sexy broad who manages to really stick it to the man by getting massive settlements for families in shadow of chemical fallouts. Reviews here.
Ernő Weszely (Concert)
Pótkulcs, 20:00
The Hungarian Stevie Wonder? He'll do you one better, he plays the accordian too. Check him in action here.
The Wrestler (Film)
Művész [map], 19:15, 21:45
Puskin, 14:30, 18:15
Mickey Rourke's Oscar nominated performance as a still-passionate, washed-up wrestler with no where to go. Part morality play, part exploration of artifice, Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream) rebounds from his poorly received film, The Fountain, this time to critical acclaim. Seriously worth the trip to the cinema, take my word for it. Trailer here.
The Reader (Film)
Puskin [map] 13:30, 19:15
Yes, it's another Holocaust film, but with loads of Kate Winslet boob shots, and I mean loads, like at least 10 or something. Ralph Fiennes plays her lover, and, you guessed it, he reads to her, in turn she bathes him. It's actually really sad stuff by the end of it. No worries though, none of this should spoil it for you. Reviews here.
