Kiende (Concert)

Budapest Jazz Club, 9th June, 21:00, 700Ft
Múzeum

A jazz club hosting Kiende?

Gentle acoustic folk music. Much closer to a Western idea of folk than the traditional Hungarian or Gypsy styles. Really quite lovely. Not really jazz, by any stretch of the imagination. Myspace here.

Or how about...?

Ocean's Eleven (Film)
Örökmozgó [map], 16:30
Rat Pack remake, kind of. It takes 11 men, including Pitt and Clooney, to steal $15 million dollars. Star-studded heist shenanigans. Reviews here. 12 and 13 follow on Wednesday and Thursday.

Athe Sam (Festival)
Gödör, from 18:00, free
Gödör's week-long Roma cultural festival ploughs on, unstoppable, like some kind of juggernaut plough. Manouche, manouche, can you do Jean Django? That's exactly what Swing Manouche do - video here. Franco-transylvanians, Traio Romano play "traditional Rumanian gipsy tunes" till you drop. Festival website here.

Rekontra (Concert)
Pótkulcs 21:00, free
Breathing
more life into traditional Hungarian folk music than you might think possible on a Tuesday night. The cimbalom is king! Listen here.

Terasz 09 (Festival)
Városliget Ice-rink [map], 20:00, 2400-4300Ft
The outdoor "ice-rink" in Varosliget hosts an on-off festival that kicks off tonight with the relentlessly upbeat and a bit dodgy Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar. It's a bit pricey too. Festival website here.
