17/06/09

Ancient Mayan folklore states that Wednesday is to be a day of sacrifice and penitence. Only once you achieve transcendence through both practices can you rejoice. We say: ignore them. No wonder their civilization's dead. Head out to one of these instead...

PASO (Concert)

A38 Roof Terrace, 17th June, 21:00
500Ft, includes drink
Petőfi hid [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

Pannonia - cheese, telephones, and ska, only one of which will be up on stage at A38 tonight. PASO have been around for a while and play uncomplicated, good-time ska - nothing really to write home about, but a lot of fun if you're in the mood. Myspace here.

Sound Sistaz will be supporting while the good-time trumpets and Jamaican 45s spin all night long on the banks of the Danube.

Also worth a gander...

The Hangover (Film)
Corvin mozi , 10:30, 12:45, 17:15, 19:30, 21:45
This film opens in Budapest today, not long after it's American release. If Superbad was about a bachelor party in Vegas gone wrong, and starred middle-aged dudes instead of teens, and had a Mike Tyson guest spot, this would be Superbad. Trailers here and NY Times review here.

Revolutionary Road (Film)
Művész [map], 20:45
Everyone's favorite "Titanic" silver screen pairing, Lionardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet team up again in this Oscar-nominated film about why suburbs suck. IMDB here. Trailer here.

Independent Wednesday Night (Club)
Szimpla Kert, free, but beer now costs 550Ft at Szimpla!
What more info do you want about tonight's Indie night other than it's "by Kid"? Who's Kid? Well it's a beer bottle-with-a-nipple sippin' 12-year-old kid spinnin' records of course.

Random Szerda (Club)
Dürer Kert, free
It's Wednesday, what can you expect? Well a "random art Wednesday" of course. Your guess is as good as ours, but it might be a good chance to check out Dürer's newly opened outside kert.
