21/06/09

It's the summer sun standstill (sol - sun and sistere - to stand still)! Actually it's tomorrow but today's a better day to appreciate it.

European Day of Music (Festival)

West Balkan Stage, 21st June, from 17:00
Királydomb, Varosliget [map]

Well, the French came up with the idea back in 1982, that the summer solstice should be a day for music. If your neighbour complains that it's too loud on 21st June, tough camembert.

So it's fitting that today's festival in Varosliget (City Park) has a French band topping the bill: Zenzile, the former "Kings of French Dub" have more recently been dabbling in electronica, hip-hop, post-punk, white funk, cold wave and urban blues. Due on at 20:45, website here.

Before that, Suhancos kick things off at 17:00 with some folky hip-hop, and the The Titty Twisters Orchestra appear at 18:45 to twist your tits with their boozy rhythm frat-rock.

Irie Maffia (Concert)
Zöld Pardon [map], 20:00
Barabás Lorinc and Dagadu Sena are both involved in the reggae/hip-hop/dancehall project, Irie Maffia, along with a million other projects. They're incredibly hard working.

ef. Zámbó Happy Dead Band + Brody János + others (Concert)
Gödör, 21.00, free
ef. Zámbó Happy Dead Band may be bottom of the bill but have by far the silliest name, and make manic electronica! Lastfm here. Further up the pecking order are Dévényi Ádám és az Átmeneti Kabát and the Hungarian Bob Dylan, Bródy János.

Flea Market (Flea Market)
Bolhapiac, City Park, morning only, 120Ft.
Sunday wouldn't be Sunday without rummaging through a load of rubbish, especially now that the weather is beautiful. Old nudie magazines, used underwear, written-on postcards, stolen mobile phones, hey maybe you can even pick up some pre-war cigarette butts! Be sure to get there early to get dibs on the best crap! Hub article here.

Smárton Trió (Concert)
A38 Roof Terrace, 21:00, 500Ft, includes drink
The Smárton Trió play a summery mix of jazz, blues, rock, pop and folk to brighten up the boat's deck. Tilos DJs, Gandharva and Suefo follow.
