09/07/09

The weekend in Budapest starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday. So for the first day of the weekend, you'd better find yourself something to do...

Bruno (Film)

Művész, 18:45, 20:30, 22:15
Teréz körút 30 [map], (T4/6, M1)
Be the first to see Sacha Baron Cohen's latest - and skimpy - outfit.

If you liked Borat, you'll probably like this. The formula: choose nationality; act like an arse; fool stupid people into thinking you're real. Some will think it's clever (teenagers); some will think it's social comment (critics); some will enjoy the crude gags (the public). Some will think it's total shite.

Take a chance on...

Táncház
Gödör, 20:00, free
Get leaping, slapping and twirling as Bivaly Zenekar and Csürrentö supply the happening folk with some happening folk.

Underworld (Concert)
Balaton Sound (not in Budapest but not that far!)
"Shouting 'Lager, lager, lager... shouting mega mega white thing..." Ok, so Born Slippy was the big hit but Underworld had previously marked out a more subtle territory with the excellent (and excellently titled) dubnobasswithmyheadman and its follow up, Second Toughest in the Infants. Their latest, Oblivion With Bells, got mixed reviews but expect a retrospective festival set.

Mike Stern Band (Concert)
Millenáris [map] 20:00, 8900Ft
Who let the cats out? If you like your contemporary jazz, Mike Stern mixes up the styles but steers clear of elevator music. Former guitarist with Miles Davis, he's led his own group since 1983, releasing Big Neighbourhood earlier this year.
