08/07/09

Celebrate the 171st birthday of Count Ferdinand Von Zeppelin, the most famous Hungarian airship designer ever to have graced the planet. You thought he was German? Well, it just goes to show, doesn't it? Learn this lesson now and learn it well, my friend: everyone is a little Hungarian.

Smárton Trió + 1 (Concert)

Pálya, 8th July, 21:00, free
Magyar Tudósok Körútja [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 5 min

The Smárton Trió play a summery mix of jazz, blues, rock, pop and folk.

Plus one? Plus one what? Plus one Hammond organ, it turns out, which gives them more of a late sixties rhythm and blues feel.

When they've had enough, DJ Bem and Mrmasters will be funking up the jazz-hop.

Also worth a gander...

Suhancos (Concert)
A38 21:00, 500Ft inc. drink
Folky hip-hop out on the deck, if you can imagine that. You don't have to, of course, because you can listen first here. You just have to imagine the deck.

Revolutionary Road (Film)

Művész [map], 21:35
Everyone's favorite "Titanic" silver screen pairing, Lionardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet team up again in this Oscar-nominated film about why suburbs suck. IMDB here. Trailer here.

Papamobile (Concert)
Kertem, Városliget [map], 20:00
Russian covers band, Papamobile only play outdoors and don't like taking days off, if this week in Budapest is anything to judge them by. They turn everything a shade Tarantino.

Pál Utcai Fiúk (Concert)

Zöld Pardon [map], 20:00
The Paul Street Boys (if you like your pointless translations), are Hungaro-indie rock that's been kicking around for years. I can't decide whether it's worse when the girl sings or when the guy sings. Sample here.
